After over a year of rumors and assumptions, word has it that Corktown's Baile Corcaigh (pronounced bal-ya cor-kee) has officially closed its doors. The space was beautiful with all the old stained glass and solid oak interiors (like a real bonafide Irish pub), and the beer selection was top-notch, offering Irish creme ales and other brews not found anywhere else that dares to proclaim itself "Irish" (the Old Shillelagh could be the poster child for this). However, $11.00 sandwiches and $15.00 fish and chips in a glorified pub coupled with sporadic and inconsistent hours in a remote location with little promotion is not the recipe for a successful business, even in the best economies. It is sad to see this place go, but honestly, it comes as a surprise to no one.
